Outdoor Theatre in 2024 at Cawdor Castle

post

We are delighted to continue our Open Air Theatre program for the summer of 2024 with three returning touring companies.

This year the program will include; The Secret Diary of Henry VIII, The Tale of Jemima Puddle-Duck and The Comedy of Errors.

With the magnificent Castle as the backdrop, outdoor theatre has been loved and celebrated by local audiences for over a decade at Cawdor Castle.

Kicking off the season on Friday 5th July will be Three Inch Fools’ brand-new production of the The Secret Diary of Henry VIII. They present an essential guide on how to keep your head in the Tudor Court. Unexpectedly thrust into the limelight, young Henry navigates the ups and downs of courtly life, and all whilst fighting the French (again) and re-writing religion. The Fools hit the road with this brand new comedy – a mad-capped take on Britain’s most epic monarch, and those infamous wives. Highland Boundary will also be in attendance for this date only, bringing their Wild Cocktail Bar with a themed menu of cocktails and mocktails to enjoy during the performance.

Later in July, Quantum Theatre will bring the family-friendly The Tales of Jemima Puddle-Duck on Thursday 18th July. Poor Jemima wants to hatch her own eggs, but when she meets a charming ‘whiskered gentleman’, will he turn out to be as nice as he seems? Find out in their wonderful new adaptation of the much-loved Beatrix Potter Tale

Closing the open air theatre season on Saturday 31st August are HandleBards; cycling Shakespearean actors who carry their full set, props and costumes on the back of their bikes whilst they tour plays across the UK. They’ll be bringing Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors like you’ve never seen before…when two sets of estranged twins are brought together on the same island, this classic comedy takes hold, with mistaken identity, music and manic costume changes a plenty.

These companies always put on a fantastic show and we are delighted to continue to bring such high quality productions to the Highlands.

Gates open 1 hour before the performance and ticket holders are welcome to explore our historic gardens before the performance starts. So pack a picnic, dress for all weathers and enjoy a fabulous evening of relaxed theatre this summer!
