The Grounds - Cawdor Castle - A five star visitor attraction near Nairn in the Scottish Highlands.

Explore the marked Nature Trails through the Big Wood and walk amongst majestic trees that have been part of Cawdor history for hundreds of years.

Castle
Cawdor Big Wood

Get lost in the wonder of the Cawdor Big Wood, the ancient woodland that surrounds Cawdor Castle.

Take a gentle stroll on one of our shorter trails or venture deeper into the Big Wood and take in the great heights of the +130ft High Bridge above the Rereach Burn.

Varying in length between ¾ mile to 5 miles there is a journey through the Big Wood for everyone.

If you lose your way in the wood, walk until you come to a burn or a stream. Follow it downstream. All burns lead to the Castle.

Dog Walking

We love dogs at Cawdor Castle, however, please note that dogs are not permitted within the immediate grounds of the Castle or the historic gardens.

Before your visit, why not enjoy a walk around our dedicated dog walking loop or let your dog run around in our enclosed & fenced dog relief area.

The dog walking route is 1km distance and takes approximately 15 minutes.

To keep this area enjoyable for all, we would appreciate if you could observe the Cawdor Dog Walking Code of conduct when on the woodland walking loop:

  • Keep dogs on a lead
  • Clean up after your dog
  • Use the waste bins provided

There are dog waste bins located by the dog relief area and general waste bins in the car park.

Assistance dogs are welcome within the gardens and grounds, please see our information on accessibility.
